Inspired by Youth driven by Hairdressers

This week a new TIGI Inspirational Youth journey began. 10 young hairdressers nervously walked into the mayhem that is TIGI Bed Head Studio and were immediately involved in presenting ideas and fashion concepts. Over the next 8 months the Team will be nurtured and mentored, honing their cutting and styling skills, developing session styling understanding and learning how to communicate to an audience, present on stage and work with makeup artists, fashion designers and illustrators on a unique project with the London College of Fashion entitled: Hair Leads the Fashion.

The 10 Team members were each presented with a complete hairdressing tool kit in a zip case together with TIGI Collection books, Catwalk Collections and DVDs. All designed to inform and guide them.

The highlight of Day 1 was a presentation by the inspirational Murray Blewitt who has worked with Vivienne Westwood for over 20 years and heads up Red Label. Murray told how at the age of 11 he was drawn into the world of fashion when he spent a summer ‘hanging out’ in Biba and although he was a farmer’s son, spent every spare moment drawing shoes. As an ex-student of the London College of Fashion, Murray is a great guide for the Team.

Day 2 saw the Team working on young models under the tuition of TIGI Creative Directors: Nick Irwin, Akos Bodi and Maria Kovacs. The morning directive was to create the perfect ponytail. This seemingly simple task, was closely watched by mentors, and, by lunchtime, all knew they had a lot to learn! In the afternoon the Team created their own look inspired by TIGI’s Catwalk Collective. Messy textured curls, edgy waves, cool braids evolved and were photographed by TIGI Bed Head Studio’s own Ben Cook.

At the end of the day they all left, excited and motivated with ‘homework’, research and masses of ideas to develop before the next meeting in 4 weeks.
